Public Art

Melbourne City Council
Laneways Commissions

Megafun was commissioned with the task of installing the many varied artworks that temporarily adorn Melbourne’s unique laneways. The range of contemporary artwork includes video installations, sculpture and kinetic installations. The works need to be installed with minimum interruption to Melbourne's working CBD and survive the rigours of the external city environment.

Megafun works closely with prominent national and international artists, local authorities, business and the public to modify the lanes and byways of Melbourne.

The Wreck of the Lady of St Kilda

The Wreck of the Lady of St Kilda was a 30 metre long steel and timber construction built and installed temporarily on the sands of St Kilda beach.

Megafun managed the construction and installation of this large and complex artwork over a very short period of time as part of the Commonwealth Games Cultural Festival staged by the City of Port Phillip.

Yarra Array

Yarra Array is an outdoor sculptural event in Birrarung Marr over a 10 to 20 day period. It has been presented twice so far, with over 30 international and local artists represented. The initiative has received significant critical acclaim.

Megafun won the tender to manage the entire process of artist liaison, logistics, installation, launch, security and removal for both the 2002 and 2004 events.

Scar Tree graphic Scar - A Stolen Vision

Scar - A Stolen Vision was an indigenous public art installation initially presented in the City Square before moving to the grassy banks of the Yarra near the Melbourne Aquarium.

The work is a series of 30 giant timber poles taken from old piers in the bay. They were each carved and sculpted by local indigenous artists, resulting in a spectacular forest of totems.

Megafun handled the management and oversight of the initial sculpting, plus arranged the installation, occupational health and safety, freight, liaison and engineering of the work, in both locations.

Its continued striking presence on the banks of the Yarra is testament to the success of the project.

Karen Casey's Heartland

Karen Casey's Heartland installation is a huge illuminated piece of public art. Over 4 stories high and 9 metres wide, this giant illuminated display faces out across the Yarra and can be seen from the Bolte Bridge.

Megafun managed the technical complexities and installation of this work.
